Mountain relocation –
Large Lake/
Ljungdalen
About the project
Ljungdalen and Storsjö are two mountain villages in western Härjedalen that have an increasingly aging population. There is extensive tourism and many businesses would need to hire, but there is no one available to be hired. Businesses that currently or in the near future would need to hire include, among others, guesthouses/restaurants, ICA, hostels, and several construction companies. The Mountain relocation project aims to attract new residents to our two villages through a comprehensive inventory, where we inventory available housing, job opportunities, service needs, and possibilities for new establishments. There is a great need for various types of services in the villages that are currently lacking, e.g., electricians, accounting firms, snowmobile service, etc. If the need is inventoried and mapped, it can enable a new establishment.
After the inventory, a platform will be created through a website where everything is presented. We also want to organize events where we invite those who have become interested in moving to our villages. We also want to increase the range of recreational activities for children. Therefore, we want to create a meeting place for children, a youth center, from which we can organize activities for the children. The young people who live in the village, who attend middle school and high school in another location (and come home in the evenings and on weekends) also have no employment. These young people have shown interest in being involved in organizing activities for the younger children, and the youth center would thus create employment and a meeting place for the youth as well. Our goals are therefore to promote the relocation of young people and families with children, help find labor for already existing job opportunities, create new jobs through new establishments, create a meeting place for children and youth, and create a model for the future for continuous relocation where every available housing and every job opportunity is utilized to attract new residents to the area.
