What is the leader method
Rural development through those who live and work in an area
There are leader areas throughout Europe. Leader is based on locally anchored ideas and solutions where businesses, associations, and public organizations work together. The fundamental idea is that local development is most effectively carried out by those who live and work in an area.
Leader grants project support for rural development. During the period 2023–2027, a total of 1.7 billion kronor is available to strengthen the competitiveness and development of Sweden's rural areas.
The foundation for all support distributed is the Leader method – a method where local anchoring and engagement are at the center.

As a member of the Leader Grogrund association, you have voting rights at the annual meeting and are also eligible for the board. Legal entities that are expected to follow the association's statutes and decisions and contribute to the realization of the association's purpose are accepted as members. Applications for membership are made in writing to the board, which accepts members.

The future is already here, it is dynamic and full of opportunities for a simple, fun, and sustainable rural life, regardless of who you are and how you choose to live.

The association's staff is tasked with supporting and coaching individuals and organizations with ideas that develop places in Berg, Härjedalen, Krokom, Åre, or Östersund municipalities.

Where does the money come from and who makes the decisions?
Leader Grogrund is funded by the EU, the state, our municipalities (Berg, Härjedalen, Krokom, Åre, and Östersund), and Region Jämtland Härjedalen. Associations, companies, or municipalities can apply for funds to implement project ideas. Those who decide who receives funding are the board of Leader Grogrund (Local action group). The board consists of individuals from the business community, associations, and the municipalities in the leader area.
