Disability-
adapted fishing spot
About the project
Storsjö Fish Conservation Association wants to build an outdoor area for people with disabilities in Västra-Rotsjön, including an adapted fishing spot. Wheelchair users can reach the fishing waters on a dock but can also access nature, grill, enjoy, and use the restroom. Adapting for wheelchair users simultaneously allows other people with disabilities or mobility issues to access the terrain. The project also wants to explore the possibility of using the docks in winter to enable wheelchair users to access the ice. Västra-Rotsjön is a natural fishing spot, where both char, trout, and grayling naturally reproduce. There is a ban on boats in the lake, so all fishing occurs from land. The site is located next to road 55, surrounded by forest, and is accessible to non-fishers as well. The funds will be used for a walkway between the parking area by the road and the fishing spot itself, adapted ground at the fishing spot, two docks extending parallel into the lake, a grill area, and a shelter for protection from rain, an outdoor restroom adapted for people with disabilities, and a ramp to access the dock down to the ice in winter.
LAG board's justification
LAG board's motivation:
One of the fundamental ideas of the Rural Development Fund is rural development in general through the development of specific collaborative projects in sparsely populated and rural areas that lead to economic development, employment, and business development through, for example, the development of basic services in leisure and culture. ”Outdoor area for people with disabilities with an adapted fishing spot” aligns with this through the collaboration between, among others, Storsjö FVO, Storsjö Fishing Camp, and Berg Municipality, through environmentally friendly and climate-friendly as well as socially inclusive product development of fishing with long-term goals to increase tourism, allow more people with disabilities to experience fishing and nature, and increase the number of job opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
