Nautical chart
The Great Lake

About the project

The project aims to create a new modern nautical chart of Storsjön. The current nautical chart has an outdated structure with an old map database, which means it cannot be presented on modern navigation aids.

To assist in developing a new nautical chart, a working group has been formed, and additional resources are being brought in for supplementary field measurements and to compile and produce digital material and printing of the chart. The finished chart will be sold to boaters and other stakeholders through boat clubs and local sales outlets. A digital map format will also be made available.

LAG board's justification

LAG board's motivation:
The LAG board chooses to prioritize this application, which is expected to contribute to the strategic goals within the Focus Area Innovation/New Technology/New Solutions/Research. The project is expected to result in an upgrade of the previous nautical chart through a new database and the ability to produce a digital nautical chart alongside a new, more user-friendly paper chart. The effects are expected to be increased safety and that several types of boats can use the chart, ranging from kayaks to motorboats. This benefits both the attractiveness of the surrounding environment around the lake and is expected to contribute in various ways to increased accessibility for more people.
