Southern Årefjällen will design and implement a GIS-based system for trail management of all types of trails within Southern Årefjällen so that visitors in the area receive quality-assured information about the trails and that those responsible for trail maintenance and quality assurance have a functioning support system for their work.

The project will enable the collection of all information about the status of the trails, needs for renovation and development, proposals for measures with cost estimates, timelines, and responsible parties. Once decisions are made and funding is secured, plans for implementation and completed work will be documented. All information will be geographically coded and accessible via a map interface. The production of all map materials will be carried out with the support of the included software and with the work processes that have been designed. The system thus contributes to ecological, social, and economic sustainability regarding the trail system.

LAG board's justification

LAG chooses to prioritize this project. Good management is of great importance to have a good trail product that ultimately contributes to sustainable trails and job opportunities within the tourism industry. Additionally, this solution can be beneficial for all who manage trail systems, and the project thus has the potential to have a broad benefit even for others within the Leader area.
