Pre-study to build land-based cultivation of seed fish

The project owners want to protect the local trout stocks from foreign stocks from other waters from other parts of Sweden as there is a shortage of fry in Härjedalen. Large parts of the fry today come from other parts of Sweden and this poses several risks – disease spread, hybridization, competition with the natural trout. The availability of fry is too low as the demand is greater than the supply and as fishing tourism increases, so does the risk of overfishing. This is mainly due to the fact that the natural migration routes are blocked by hydropower. This project aims to secure the availability of Ljusnan trout fry in the long term to strengthen the stocks in fishing waters in Härjedalen. 

The goal when the project is completed is to have developed a basis for the construction and an operational plan that can be used in a further application for implementation projects. 

In the long term, they want to solve the problems created by hydropower that have destroyed the migration routes of Ljusnan trout and avoid fish from other parts of Sweden being released into our waters. They also want to increase employment in the village by creating new jobs.

The project helps to solve the negative effects of hydropower expansion and creates employment within fishing tourism, as the availability of fry is secured for this and also for other fishing for personal use.”
